Economic well-being indicators: July to September, 2014

The performance of the UK’s economy is normally solely measured by the UK’s GDP figure, but this does not always provide a very rounded picture.

Here we look at a range of economic indicators alongside GDP, such as unemployment, inflation and household income per head, in order to provide a more complete illustration of economic well-being in the UK.


Economic well-being infographic. In July to September 2014 GDP grew 0.6% compared to April to June 2014. In July to September 2014 NNDI per head grew 0.1% compared to April to June 2014. In 2013 UK net wealth grew 4.4% compared to 2012. In 2013 Household net wealth grew 2.6% compared to 2012. In July to September 2014 Household spending per head grew 0.8% compared to April to June 2014. In July to September 2014 Household income per head fell 0.2% compared to April to June 2014. Median income was £23,300 in 2012/13. In September 2014 households considered their financial situation to be slightly worse than a year ago. Inflation fell to 1.2% in September 2014. Unemployment fell to 6.0% in the three months to September 2014.
