What is the census for?
Census statistics are a way of tracking how our society changes; it paints a picture of how we live, and offers a detailed snapshot of the population and its characteristics.
It provides statistics on topics such as housing , language, health and education, which informs the spending decisions of local authorities in providing public services.
Visual.ONS is home to a number of census analyses that lets you explore our society over a variety of topics.
We have provided insight into areas which show how we live now; such as migration, social housing, travel trends and how religion has changed in the UK.
ONS has launched a public consultation, to find out what topics the census in 2021 should cover.
You can submit responses on the Census 2021 website until August 27.
