Sexual identity in the UK in 2014

The Integrated Household Survey specifically provides data on sexual identity and smoking prevalence, which allows academics, government departments, and other stakeholders to provide evidence for planning, policy and monitoring purposes.

See below five facts about sexual identity in the UK, from the survey:

1.6% of adults in the UK identified their sexual identity as lesbian, gay or bisexual in 2014.

A higher proportion of younger people identified themselves as lesbian, gay or bisexual: 2.6% of 16 to 24 year olds.

Of those identifying as bisexual, 69% were women and 31% were men.

A higher proportion of those who identified themselves as lesbian, gay or bisexual worked in the professional sector; 2.1% compared with 1.4% who worked in the routine and manual sector.

London had the highest percentage of adults identifying themselves as lesbian, gay or bisexual at 2.6%
